FAQs
WHAT IS COUNSELLING?
The British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP, 2018) describe therapy as a safe and confidential space to talk to a trained professional about your issues and concerns. During the counselling process, your therapist will help you explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours so you can develop a better understanding of yourself and of others. A counsellor will not give you their opinions or advice or prescribe medication. They will help you find your own solutions – whether that’s making effective changes in your life or finding ways of coping with your problems.
HOW LONG IS EACH SESSION?
Sessions are 50 minutes (therapeutic hour) and take place usually once a week.
HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?
The duration of the therapeutic process often depends upon the type of difficulty or problem you are experiencing. Some people prefer to work with an open-ended contract, whereas other people prefer to work with a fixed number of sessions followed by a review. We can discuss together at our initial appointment what would work best for you. Every six sessions, we will review our work to ensure that it continues to meet your needs.
WHAT HOURS DO YOU WORK?
Depending on what is mutually suitable, I try to schedule appointments for the same time and day each week. My working hours are mostly during the day, but I do offer some evening appointments.
WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?
If there is an unavoidable reason to cancel your appointment, I kindly ask that you give 48 hours’ notice, otherwise a full fee would be payable before the next session.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF ONLINE COUNSELLING?
Using online or phone therapy can be just as effective as face-to-face therapy, as well as having the additional advantage of being convenient and easily accessible. The flexibility of online or telephone sessions not only enables you to attend your sessions from the comfort of your own home, but you can also access your session no matter where you are in the world.
However, I do ask that you have a safe, undisturbed, and private space in which to speak and a stable internet connection.
DO YOU OFFER CONCESSIONS?
I have limited low income reduced rate slots, so please ask if this is something that might help you access counselling. A waiting list may apply, but I would be happy to add you to this if applicable
